Novel testing methods for endocrine disruption linked to developmental neurotoxicityThe European project ENDpoiNTs was running between 2019-2024 and focused on developing new testing and screening methods to identify endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) that induce human developmental neurotoxicity (DNT). Its main outcomes are:
- Increased evidence base for endocrine disruptors’ effects on neurodevelopment in children
- Improved PBTK models for predicting exposures of the developing brain
- Identification of hormonal pathways relevant for neurodevelopment and generated 21 new QSARS, 6 in vitro assays and 1 in vivo (xenopus) towards those.
- Integrated OMICs data across test systems (in vitro and in vivo) to identify markers linking endocrine disruption to neurodevelopmental outcomes.
- 4 new adverse outcome pathways (AOPs) and 1 new AOP network based on ENDpoiNTs data to plausibly/casually link endocrine disruption and developmental neurotoxicity.
- A database through which most generated data is publicly available
Some of the ENDpoiNTs results are taken further towards regulatory use in projects like PARC and PEPPER.
